New Year New Giveaway

Happy New Year! I know 2021 wasn't what we all hoped for, but it's time to start fresh with a new year. Here's hoping all of you have a better 2022. I wish for everyone to be healthier, happier, and more successful than last year. I'm hoping I get more writing done, eat less chocolate, and move around more. I'm not making actual resolutions though because honestly, I don't know that I'll keep to them past this weekend. But I'm hopeful. We'll see.

To start the New Year off right I'd like to give away some prizes. I am a huge fan of Jodi Thomas and Madeline Hunter and entered contests to win their books. Then, I thought the contests had ended with someone else winning and I bought the books. But behold, I actually did win a copy of each book! So, I'm giving away three prize boxes:

The first box has a new copy of Madeline Hunter's Heiress in Red Silk. It's an excellent historical romance, just as all her books are, and I highly recommend it. I'm also including a read copy of RaeAnne Thayne's Riverbend Road, a coffee mug, and one of my goody bags.

The second box includes a new copy of Jodi Thomas' Dinner on Primrose Hill. I'm about to start reading it, but I absolutely love all of her sweet romance books. They're not spicy like what I write but her characters and settings are memorable. The box also includes a read, signed copy of Nicole Flockton's One Hot Texas Summer, a cute little notebook, and one of my goody bags.

The third box includes a new copy of Room Service by Rochelle Alers. I cracked open this book, but a few pages in realized it would better to read the other books in the series first. Unfortunately, my TBR pile is preventing me from buying them at this time. The box also includes a magnetic 2022 calendar, a cute magnet, and one of my goody bags.

To enter to win one of these prize boxes all you have to do is visit this Rafflecopter and use one of the methods to be entered. Commenting on this blog post is one of the ways to enter. Feel free to comment below with your New Year's resolutions, your favorite book from 2021, or anything else you'd like to say. The contest ends on January 9th and is only open to those in the continental U.S. due to shipping costs (sorry!). Good luck!

This Black Friday, November 23rd, I will be hosting a day in the Winter Romance Reads Facebook group. There will be bad holiday jokes, there will be yummy holiday recipes, and there will be GIVEAWAYS!

Please join me here as I pop in between my own holiday shopping adventures and post comments. Every comment will be entered into my drawing, as well as the event drawing for a $100 Amazon gift card! You do have to join the group, however, you can turn off notifications and/or leave the group once you're finished enjoying the posts. So, please join me this Friday and GOOD LUCK!

Our Walk Team Can Use Your Help

It's that time of year again. We're walking to raise money for research in the hopes that one day my 12 year old daughter, and the many other people with Type 1 Diabetes, can live a more normal life. Over 80% of all donated money to JDRF goes straight to research. In just the four years since my daughter's diagnoses the artificial pancreas, smart insulin, encapsulation, and other life-altering breakthroughs have gone from "We hope to one-day..." to actual human clinical trials. These specific breakthroughs have been helped along by the JDRF organization and the hard work of thousands of volunteers and fundraising individuals.

I know there are a lot of worthy causes. I realize October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. I know it's so close to the holidays that every penny matters. If you can donate even a single dollar, it would be GREATLY appreciated. Every single donor will be entered to win a $25 Amazon gift card. Donate $20 or more and I will send you a signed book. Just click here to donate and be sure to include your name and email so I know how to contact you.

Thank you!!

And Now it's August

Happy August 1st. I'm not sure where the summer is going but it seems to be heading there fast. I just realized I didn't post a single blog in the month of July. To be honest, I didn't have a lot going on in my writing life last month.

August will be different. This month I am participating in the Long and Short Reviews' 8th Anniversary Bash. It lasts from August 17th through the 28th. At some point in that time frame there will be a trivia question from me. Answer it correctly and you'll be entered to win a copy of one of my books. I'm sorry to say that I don't remember which one I put up for grabs.

Also this month I will be working harder to get another book finished. My writing has been a bit stagnant for various reasons but I'm feeling the stirrings of my muse again. I have one Archangel series book left in my Entangled contract. However, there are still five more brothers who need to have their stories told. I promise those stories will be published one way or another.

As for my Gargoyle Masters... I'm still waiting on word from Samhain about contracting book two. If they decide not to offer me a contract then I might try my hand at self-publishing for the first time. I haven't decided yet if I'd like to go that route or try subbing it to a different publisher. To be honest, I don't want anyone who is waiting for this book to wait any longer than absolutely necessary.

On an unexpected note, I decided to ask Samhain if I can re-edit They Call Me Death. The contract expires this summer and there are a lot of things I would love to change in that book. They said yes. I don't know exactly what that means yet, but there it is. More info to come as I have it.

I hope everyone has been having a wonderful summer. Try to enjoy what's left of it and stay cool. We're boiling down here in Southeast Texas.

Giveaway!

One thing that became clear after my travels in May is that my office is ridiculously cluttered. Since I don't plan to get rid of any of my bookshelves, I've had to clean it up and reorganize. That caused me to realize I have a HUGE amount of swag. There's really no need for me to keep it all to myself, so I'm going to give it away. There are a handful of books I'm willing to give up as well. All you have to do is enter the Rafflecopter give away by following the steps outlined on it here. The contest runs through my birthday, June 15th. Good luck!!

Sex Scene Championships

It's August! And with the new month comes a fun endeavor I'll be participating in for the first time: Scorching Book Reviews' Sex Scene Championships.

Basically two authors will be facing off in each round with one sex scene she picked from one of her books. This was pretty hard for me, not only because I had more than one book to choose from but also because the competition is so fierce! On top of that, we had to only choose an excerpt of about 600 words. I hadn't realized how long my sex scene run. Almost all of them are well over that 600 limit.

So, I'm in round 11, up against Cari Quinn. She's a fabulous author so I'm a little worried. As soon as the link is live for voting in my round I'll have it posted everywhere. For now, be sure to check out the first few rounds. Every time you vote you're entered to win some fabulous prizes!

Do You Know Shelley Munro? (contest)

Hi, my name is Shelley Munro and I’m a frustrated cat owner.
Let me explain. Cats love my husband and always make a beeline for him if he meets them at a friend’s house, but he doesn’t like them back. In fact, I’d go so far as to say the next door neighbor’s cat and my husband have an ongoing war about trespassing in the vegetable patch. Don’t tell my husband, but I think the cat is winning.
Luckily I’m an equal opportunity pet owner and I find a dog an acceptable alternative. We adopted our current dog Bella from the Humane Society. She’s a real bundle of energy and we both love her to bits.
But back to cats. I decided one day that if I couldn’t own a cat, there was nothing to stop me writing about the species. After pondering the matter and doing a little research, I settled on black leopards and wrote an entire series about them. Take that, Mr. Munro!
My choice of black leopards came after I read a story in the local paper about sightings of a large mystery cat in the South Island. The story fascinated me, and continues to interest me since there are still occasional sightings. Some people say there is a leopard living out in the wild while others scoff at the idea, because we don’t have big cats in New Zealand—not unless they’re in a zoo. I like to believe the stories, although I hope I never come face-to-face with one!

Leopards are interesting cats. Here are some facts about the big cats.

1. Leopards are solitary cats and usually only seek out other leopards in order to mate.
2. They hunt at night and sleep in trees during the day.
3. They’re excellent climbers and often haul their kills up into trees.
4. Leopards are found in many different habitats and countries.
5. Their spots make for excellent camouflage.
6. They are built for short bursts of speed, and their jaws and strong build help them take down big animals.
7. Black leopards are called panthers in some countries. They still have spots but they blend into the leopard’s coat.
Are you a cat or dog person? A feline shifter or a werewolf person?

Birthday Binge (last contest post)

June is my birthday month and I’ve claimed all thirty days to celebrate. What’s really cool is how all the places I shop and eat most enable me to party all month every year. My husband used to laugh when I signed up for every loyalty card regardless of how little I shopped at a place, but he stopped when I started getting free stuff every June. This year I get free pancakes, free popcorn, a free soda at the movies, a $25 gift card at a local boutique, a small notepad, $25 credit at one of my favorite restaurants, and tons of coupons. It’s kind of funny, I’m not sure I can even use up all the offers before the end of the month.

I’ve always loved to celebrate birthday, mine and anyone else’s. When I worked at the bank I was unofficially in charge of getting the birthday cakes and cards for each team member. I loved it. I never look at birthdays as a sign of getting older. To me they’re a sign of surviving another year and hopefully growing in some way. I’ll admit my kids’ birthday can be kind of depressing. My oldest turned eighteen last year and that was kind of a bummer. But I still love to celebrate with them and everyone who loves them.

How do you feel about birthdays? Do you look forward to them or hide from them? Add a comment below and you might win a prize. Just because it’s my birthday month doesn’t mean I can’t share in the fun of receiving. Today is the last day to enter to win the $10 virtual gift card I’m giving away.
