Friday Fireworks Blog Hop
Welcome to my Friday Fireworks Blog Hop Post!!
If you're here that means you're hoping to win a Kindle Fire. Good luck and don't forget to visit the other author's sites!
So what is special about today other than your chance to win the blog hop? Today is the 35th anniversary of the release of the original Star Wars. So, it's time to let my Geek Flag fly and let ya'll in on a little(ish) secret. I'm a HUGE Star Wars fan. Like, a convention going, Yoda loving, Princess Leia emulating, Star Wars fan.
The original Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, was release on May 25, 1977. At the time I was only two years old, but at some point in my youth I saw the movie. I remember having all the little action figures and asking my mom to roll my hair up into buns on wither side of my head. I LOVED Luke with a passion only a pre-pubescent fan girl can truly feel. However, it wasn't until much later, with the release of Episode I: The Phantom Menace, that I was able to live out my passion to it's fullest measure.
In May of 1999 I attended a Star Wars convention in Denver, Colorado and realized I'm actually pretty darn normal. There were people of all ages in all forms of costumes. There were more Slave Leias than I could shake a stick at and Storm Troopers galore. I was in heaven. The icing on the cake came in the form of a rap concert put on by Ahmed Best, the voice of Jar Jar Binks.
Not only was the room full of nerds with no rhythm or self respect, but various Star Wars VPs arrived as the night wore on.
I got to ogle, er...meet Ray Park. The hot actor beneath all the red and black make-up of Darth Maul. He's not only super sexy in person but a really sweet guy. He's also an amazing martial artist.
Uh, yes. That is the boob of a Slave Leia on the right side of the photo. Sigh.
Aside from the late night rap session, there were also life-sized models of various characters and some of the vehicles used in the film. It was a once in a lifetime experience I'll never forget.
So here's a bonus question, apart from the Blog Hop, that can win you a prize just from me. In the comments below tell me either which Star Wars character you would love to meet in person, if you ever had the chance, or if you're not a fan, which movie you'd love to attend a convention for? The winner will be drawn via random.org tomorrow and posted here. Don't forget to add your email address in your comment. What's the prize? A $5 gift certificate for Samhain Publishing.
Blog Hop Question: What do Retreat Hell! She Just Got Here's Jazz, Logan and Zach have in common?(Hint: Check out her ‘books’ at Heatherlong.net )
May the force be with you...always. Star Wars was the first big screen feature film I ever saw and Luke Skywalker was sooooo my first crush. This was long before my bad boy phase. *grins* I actually met Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) when I was a kid and he was soooo huge. I also remember attacking the poor guy dressed up as Darth Vader after The Empire Strikes Back decrying the idea that the monster could be Luke's father.
ReplyDeleteComplete Star Wars fans in this house!! So much so that Darth Vader attended our wedding reception. If I could meet any character I would choose to meet Boba Fett. I know that underneath all the stuff...he has some hotness going on!

Lol, you definitely have me beat with the Vader wedding guest. ;-)
DeleteI've always loved Han Solo. :) Something about the smart-*ss tough guy does it for me.
ReplyDeleteI didn't really appreciate Han until I was older. When I was little Luke was my hero.
DeleteI have to say I remember my cousin sneaking us into the theater (he worked there) to see Star Wars because it was impossible to get tickets. If I was able to meet anyone from Star Wars it would have to be James Earl Jones. The way he brought Darth Vader to life with just his voice still astounds me.
ReplyDeletecelticcat822ATyahoo.com
Oooh, I agree. LOVE his voice!
DeleteHi Missy! You're a new author to me so I'm glad the blog hop brought me here :) As for Star Wars geekiness, I'm all over it. My hubby is worse though with his collection of 70s SW collectibles. All my artist friends, myself included did a lot of SW fan art as well. Some of them still do. It's an obsession. You should look up artist Matt Busch on YouTube. He's another SW geek and one of the videos shows a tour of his house - two words Star Ward Heaven!
ReplyDeleteAs for which SW character I'd want to meet in person, I'd have to go with Boba Fett. There was just something about not knowing what he looked like under that helmet, lol. Thank you for the giveaway and the chance to win.

Me either. I'm kinda stuck.lol
DeleteMichelle, thanks for the heads up about Matt. I'll definitely check him out.
DeleteI'm so sorry I forgot to post the question first thing, but it's there now.
Thank you Missy! Since there are so many videos, I thought I'd send you the link to it. If it doesn't work, just search for Matt Busch How To Draw STAR WARS! Episode 21 of 22: More Mailbag! Here's the link, I hope it works :)

My favorites, since the first movie, were C3PO and R2D2. So I would love to meet C3PO; he's so prim and proper!
ReplyDeleteThanks,

Lol, don't be ashamed! I'd love to go to any convention where Casper Van Dien is attendance, lol.
DeleteThank you so much for all the comments! I'm SO SORRY I forgot to post the Blog Hop question, but it's there at the bottom now. Oops! I had this post all ready and nice and neat early. Should have known I'd forget the most important part. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteCome to the dark side...we have cookies.
ReplyDeleteAnd a kindle fire...
;)
It is a very fun and neat blog. It got me remembering my favorite star wars moments. :) Thanks
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by. :-D
DeleteYoda was always my favorite. I loved the way he talked. Both my now crown children are huge Star Wars fans especially my daughter. I used ti talk like Yoda to distract them when they were fighting or having typical kid meltdown.
ReplyDeleteLol, good idea. Only my youngest likes Star Wars. Yoda always made me think of Grover. I'm a big Sesame Street fan too. ;-)
DeleteI would go to a Lord of the Rings convention!
ReplyDeletemcv111@hotmail.com

Deletewow what a book i gotta have it ive put it on my wish list. butterfli262002@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteAnd I Would Love To Meet Anikin Or Luke Skywalker.
DeleteThanks for stopping by April!
DeleteI'd like to attend a movie convention for The Chronicles of Narnia movie. I really like the world-building and it would be interesting to see what the convention would have. I've never attended one but they sound like a lot of fun. Plus I can share it with other fans of the movie.
ReplyDeleteCambonified(at)yahoo(dot)com
Yeah, I'll bet that one would be awesome. Just imagine the costumes!
DeleteI think it would be a tie between wanting to meet C3P0 and Darth Vader (just because I love James Earl Jones' voice and admire that he overcame his stuttering issues). I have to admit that I am both a Star Wars fan and a Trekker so I would love to attend a convention for either faction.
ReplyDeleteelewkf1 at yahoo dot com
I think I'd be afraid to attend a Star Trek convention. ;-)
DeleteI would love to meet Chewie!!Wonder if he purrs? I remember seeing the 1st Star Wars movie with my Mom. I was August of 1977, We were on vacation in the mountains of NH & we took off for a drive almost a half hour away to see it. It felt like we were the only ones who hadn't seen it yet.On the way back to our cabin we almost hit a moose in the road. very unforgettable day.
ReplyDeleteKleah921 (at) gmail (dot) com
Lol, wow!
DeleteHi Missy,
ReplyDeleteI did I would like to meet Yoda. He can give me some sage advice. I love "The Avengers" movie and would love to see all the actors(Hawkeye, Cap, Thor) at a Comic Con type of convention.

LOL! Missy, I can totally understand being a huge Star Wars fan! That was the first movie I ever saw in a theater! I loved Princess Leia, and so envied a grade school classmate whose grandmother sewed her a gorgeous Princess Leia gown (the classic white one) and at Halloween she had the whole cinnamon buns look and really looked amazing! Thanks for participating in the hop!
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Rhonda D!
Lol. The first movie I remember seeing in a theater (vaguely) is Superman. I started screaming at the screen when Jimmy almost fell off the dam.
DeleteThe convention that I would love to attend would be for the movie Galaxy Quest.
ReplyDeletecaity_mack at yahoo dot com
Oooh I love that movie!
